Midway was Kentucky's first railroad town, laid out in 1835 by railroad engineer R. C. Hewitt after the Lexington & Ohio Railroad reached the line's midpoint in 1833, and its Main Street and Railroad Street buildings still face the active rail line that gave the town its name and its layout.
